The CADF has established a storage and retesting strategy as per the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules. It foresees that samples provided by the leaders of the Grand Tours, UCI World Championships and general rankings of most cycling disciplines will be kept for long-term storage and potential re-analysis.
Any other samples can be stored for retesting based on the risk assessment carried out by the CADF, which may be based on ABP data, intelligence and/or laboratory recommendations, or any other source of information or anticipation of scientific developments.
The scientific breakthroughs in anti-doping technology and analysis will be employed in the reanalysis of the stored samples to allow CADF to find previously undetectable substances. The long-term storage and re-analysis of samples remain one of the best tools to protect the clean athletes.
